  • Last Wednesday, I attended the town of Italy board meeting and was pleased to hear board members praise Highway Superintendent Dan Schenk for running a tight ship with the crew of public workers under his supervision.
In his leadership responsibility to the community, Schenk has reined in the former practice of employees starting the workday with long coffees at a local diner, hence earning the board’s and community’s recognition. So I was surprised and disappointed to read that voters in the Republican primary election had given more votes to the former superintendent than to Schenk.
When it comes to accountability for use of our taxpayer money, Schenk will clearly get my vote and hopefully an overwhelming majority of votes in the general election on Nov. 8 when he runs as an Independent candidate to be reelected as highway superintendent.
