Transform your child’s room into a fantasy
Pick a book
Use your child’s favorite books, toys, TV shows or anything else she or he loves as inspiration; magazines and decorating books could also play a part.
Shop for fabric, wallpaper or border paper that goes with the theme; use one print or scheme as the room’s anchor.
Using your anchor, pick out one color to use on the walls, floor and ceiling. The shades can vary, but it should be one color for uniformity.
Also using the anchor, pick out coordinating prints in fabric, bedding and accessories. They could be the same color, but different colors make the room pop better.
Decide which element of the room (bed, dresser, etc.) is going to be the room’s focal point; that’s where the theme is going to be best played.
Be creative when planning the decorative elements – for example, Matchbox cars and a race track tacked to the wall for a racing fan — and be sure to save a place to display your child’s art.
