Senior pitcher Dustyn Wilkes scatters seven hits and strikes out six in leading the top-seeded Lions into the semifinals over the eighth-seeded Big Green.

Senior pitcher Dustyn Wilkes hurled No. 1 seeded Lyons into the Section 5 Class CC semifinals with a 10-1 win over No. 8 Naples on Wednesday afternoon.


Wilkes scattered seven hits and struck out six Big Green batters over six innings as his teammates built the lead.


The Lions grabbed their advantage in the bottom of the first on a one-out single by Heyden Lester, who stole second and scampered hom on on a RBI single by Derick Fera.


The hosts tacked on three runs in the second as Lester had a RBI single. Ben Block scored on a wild pitch and Lester crossed the plate on a dropped fly ball to the outfield.


Lyons added a run in the third on a leadoff walk to Alex Mussolino, who eventually came home on a groundout.


The Big Green had runners on second and third in the second and fourth innings, but baserunning mistakes took them out of the inning both times.


Wilkes also picked off a runner at first in the third frame.


The Lions put the game away with five markers in the fourth.Mussolino started the rally with a ground-rule double over the left field fence as they paraded 14 batters to the plate. Corey Borrelli had a two-run single in the uprising.


Nick Fera pitched the seventh inning for the Lions.


Lyons will face the winner of No. 4 Pavilion and No. 5 Canisteo-Greenwood on Friday in the semifinals. The final is set for Tuesday, May 29.
