I can’t think of anyone who doesn’t enjoy discovering the latest utility box camouflaged with artwork. Most of us think it’s a great way to hide those ugly olive-drab boxes.
This movement, however, has become much more than a way to conceal an eyesore.
These are works of urban furnishing similar to a kiosk. They are most successful when they identify a micro-neighborhood like the example in the photo does. It tells us that we are in the “cinema zone.” It also reminds us that we still have movie theaters in the city. That’s a good thing!
