Kelly Congdon recently opened Just 4 You, a boutique located at 15 Canal St. in Lyons.
Kelly Congdon saw an opportunity and decided to take advantage of it.
The entrepreneur recently opened Just 4 You boutique, located at 15 Canal St.
“I always wanted to open up a little clothing store,” she said. “I decided now was a better time than any just simply because there seems to be a lot of business starting coming to this street. I thought it was time to jump aboard.”
Congdon was born in Seneca Falls, but raised her family in Lyons.
“We’ve been in and out of the area for the last 25 years,” she said.
The pas 12 years Congdon has worked at a pharmacy, and when she was a teenager she worked in a clothing store. She also previously ran a bar business.
The boutique is targeted for the young misses and accessories market.
“Your perfumes, makeup, scarfs, shoe and boots,” Congdon said. “Basically a little bit of everything for the young misses. The sizes go from petit to large, and a few extra large.
“It’s a little bit different, boutique clothing.”
There is a revival going on in Main St. and Canal St. to facelift and bring back the downtown area.
“It just seemed like a great location,” Congdon said. “Everybody who have opened up business, they’re just such great people, the whole street, and downtown, too. There is a variety of things on the street.
“We have a couple of restaurants, gift shop, book store, men’s clothing, uniforms, a jewelry shop, which has been here. There are a couple of fast food restaurants. There are a computer and natural foods across the street.”
Congdon added, “Everything just seems to be coming to this street, a barber shop, two hair dressers. There is a lot on this little tiny street that I don’t even think people are aware of yet.”
Canal St. is located between Main St. and Route 14 in downtown Lyons.
“That’s what made me come here, thinking that is going to get out there,” Congdon added. “The street really has a lot of potential.
“It’s such a pretty street, but there are a couple of areas that still need to be cleaned up yet, which I have a lot of confidence that is going to happen, then I think it’s going to be a very, very popular, shop in your own hometown little area here. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that is what will happen.”
Congdon also hopes to draw from outside the immediate Lyons area as there is nothing like her boutique close-by. The nearest similar boutique is in Geneva.
“I really don’t know of boutiques around like this,” she said. “Hopefully, this will spark other people to do the same thing. They’re calling for it again, I believe.
“Even in this town it would be nice for someone else to open up a shoe store or an older women’s clothing store. Just bring more businesses into the town because there is plenty of room for it.”
Congdon continued, “I think people are ready to shop at home again. They still want to go to your malls, so do I, but I really miss having a home town store to go to.
“I have very high, top-quality clothing here, and I’m keeping my prices low enough so people can afford to shop here. It’s below mall prices.
“Hopefully, I’ll make a great goal here.”
