School hosts BBQ, bake sale
East Palmyra Christian School will host a chicken barbeque and bake sale, featuring Dutch Ollie Bollen.
The event will be held at Mike Barnard Chevrolet, Route 31, Newark (next to Wegman’s Plaza) on Saturday, June 23 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or gone. The cost of $8 includes half chicken, coleslaw or macaroni salad, salt potatoes and two slices of homemade Italian bread.
Call 597-4400 for tickets. Pre-sale tickets are recommended but not necessary. Activities include baking, candies, candy, cupcakes, food, sales, signs and sweets.
Elks to sponsor carp derby
Lyons Elks Lodge is sponsoring its 22nd annual carp fishing derby June 23.
Fishing will only be permitted between the Route 14 and Leach Road bridges within the village of Lyons.
The derby will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with registration taking place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The cost to enter is $3 per person. All participants younger than 13 must be accompanied by an adult throughout the derby.
Only two carp can be entered. All fish must be alive at the weigh in.
Prizes will be awarded in four different age categories.

Summer Programs start at the library
A fun filled summer can be found at the Lyons Public Library, 122 Broad St. in Lyons, this year.
There are programs every day for children up to 6th grade, Monday through Friday at 1 p.m., in the Library's Community Room. Monday, July 1 kids get to make Red, White and Blue Crafts and play a game to celebrate July 4.
Come and do Cooking with Carol on Tuesday, July 3 to make some simple but delicious treats. There will be no program July 4 since the library will be closed. Join the Starry Night Scavenger Hunt on Thursday, July 5 where children will search the Library for a list of starry fun. And on Friday, July 6 have Christmas in July where everyone gets to create Christmas crafts and treats.
All of the programs are free and registration is not required. Children under 6 must be accompanied by a teen or adult.
