Hilton gradutes Mark Ditroia, Derek Richards and Dante Giordano have been friends and teammates since second grade.
A trio of Hilton boys lacrosse players have taken to the field together for the final time as 2013 graduates Mark Ditroia, Derek Richards and Dante Giordano all leave the program after years on the same squad.
From the time they first started playing lacrosse together in the second grade, Mark, Derek and Dante have been friends on and off the field. All three were starters for the Hilton varsity football team in 2012 and each depart from the lacrosse team with a place in program history.
Dante Giordano served as a team captain for the Cadets in 2013. A two-time all-county midfielder, he was selected to play in the Herb Fitch All-Star Game this past season as well. His 90 career goals rank second in program history, while his 109 career points place him fifth all-time. Dante’s 47 goals scored his senior year stand as a school record. He will attend St. John Fisher beginning this fall.
Derek Richards also was elected as a team captain for the Hilton boys lacrosse team in 2013, and joined Dante as a participant in the Herb Fitch All-Star Game. He holds the school record for assists in a career (105) and points in a career (165), as well as the school record for most assists in a single season (47 in 2013). Derek will attend Mercyhurst starting this fall.
Mark Ditroia was a three-year member of the Hilton boys varsity lacrosse team and also earned first-team all-county honors as a member of the varsity football team. He finished his career with a 56 percent save rate and holds the school record with 296 career saves.
Though Hilton’s history as a varsity program extends back just a handful of years, the desire to compete against the top teams of Section 5 has been around since day one. The Cadets will look to a new group of talented players to replace the experience and leadership which Dante, Derek and Mark will leave behind.
