Newark Elks Lodge No. 1249 recently hosted a Wine and Cheese Tasting Gala to benefit the Wayne County Humane Society. Stephanie Cooper, President of the Board of Directors of the Humane Society, was presented with a $2,000 check by Exalted Ruler, Brad Whittaker.

Newark Elks Lodge No. 1249 recently hosted a Wine and Cheese Tasting Gala to benefit the Wayne County Humane Society. Stephanie Cooper, President of the Board of Directors of the Humane Society, was presented with a $2,000 check by Exalted Ruler, Brad Whittaker.

Representatives from Zugibe Vineyards, Montezuma Winery, JD Wine Cellars, White Springs Winery, Heluva Good, and Muranda Cheese Company set up tables displaying their products and welcoming guests for tastings. Also displayed were brochures giving information about the production of their fine wines and cheeses.

Over 100 guests visited the Humane Society booth set up by Cooper and her husband, David Cooper, and circulated to the various tables for tasting while using their complimentary wine glasses.

Excitement and laughter filled the room as door prizes were awarded and Silent Auction winners were announced. The hors d'oeuvres, tea sandwiches, fruit trays and homemade desserts were enjoyed by all.

Special thanks went out to Progressive Printing, Wayne County Humane Society, The Flower Mill, Newark Country Club, Newark Quality Inn, Newark Veterinary Hospital, Belhurst Castle, Macedon Veterinary, Robert Schinsing, Penfield's Michael's Valley Grill, Newark Wegmans, Parkers, Mark's Pizzaria, Doug Kents Bowling, K&M Liquor, Bodine's Liquor, HEP Sales in Newark, Bubba's in Sodus and to Elk members who made numerous contributions and assisted throughout the festivities.

Wine Donations were received from Prejean winery, Torrey Ridge Winery, Earle Estates Meadery, Glenora Wine Cellars, Hazlitt Winery, Seneca Shores Winery, Fruit Yard Winery, Knapp Winery, Cayuga Ridge Estate Winery and Sheldrake Point Vineyard.

Committee chairs, Patty DeJohn and Corrina DeJohn, coordinated the Gala with volunteers including Miche DeCook, Linda Wiltsie, Lori Randolph, Sharon VerHeecke, Mary Adams, Dorene VanDemortel, and Marlene Donk.
