Mrs. DiCicco, Mrs. Ellis and Mrs. Shaffer’s classes at the Palmyra-Macedon Intermediate School began collecting soda can pull tabs for a math project.

The goal was to collect 1,000, which they achieved, but kept collecting. They ended up with 6.10 pounds of tabs. Did you know that 1,430 tabs equals a pound?

They visited the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester to donate their collection and received a tour of the facility. The House redeems the tabs at a recycling center for cash to help support the families that stay there while a family member is receiving medical care.

On the way back to school, they stopped at the Macedon McDonalds to have a tour and to receive a fresh baked cookie. The field trip taught the students that little things can make a big difference.
