A huge second inning helped the Victor baseball team record its best offensive performance of the season in a 15-2 win over Hilton on Monday. Every Blue Devil came to the plate in the bottom of the second, as Victor had 11 hits and 11 runs in the frame to get a comfortable lead.
The hot bats didn’t surprise Victor third baseman Pete Carrier.
“I think this team definitely knows we can do that any day or any inning,” the senior said. “At least for me, you’re almost expecting it. Everyone can hit it, everyone can get things going. But, it’s definitely exciting because we haven’t had innings like this most of this year.”
Carrier went 3 for 4 at the plate with three RBI and shortstop Dale Wickham went 2 or 3 with three RBI to power the Blue Devils.
“Those are the guys that have performed before for us, and we thought would perform for us this year and they’re really starting to come alive, especially Pete as of late,” Victor coach Sean Rucker said. “Dale started to hit for us early, but Pete has now found his stride and is really swinging with confidence.”
Fellow Blue Devil Jake Redding went 2 for 3 with an RBI; Tommy Wagner went 2 for 4 with two RBI; Brett Prong went 2 for 3 with an RBI; Pat Metzger went 2 for 3 with two RBI; Jon Simmons went 2 for 3; and Pete Sobraske went 2 for 2.
Mike Parsons picked up the win on the mound for Victor, shutting out Hilton through the first three innings. Relief pitchers AJ Lefebvre, Brandon Hildreth and Jon Schlesing combined to hold the Cadets to just two runs over the final four innings.
The Blue Devils opened up a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Wagner hit an RBI double to left-center field to score Wickham, and Carrier hit a single down the third-base line to score Wagner.
The big inning started with an RBI single by Metzger to score Prong. Metzger scored on an error, and Mike and Tommy Wagner hit back-to-back RBI singles. Carrier hit a two-RBI single up the middle, Prong hit an RBI single, Metzger hit an RBI double, Redding hit an RBI single, and Wickham closed the inning with a two-RBI triple to make it 13-0.
“Everyone was hitting the ball hard,” Wickham said. “What we say is, we put it on the next guy. That’s what we did today. Everyone came through and picked each other up.”
Mike Wagner scored from third base in the third inning after Josh Busch stole second base and the ball got away from the second baseman.
The Cadets got on the scoreboard in the fourth when Ryan Juergens hit an RBI double to score Tony Nigrelli.

Josh Crocetti pitched the final 4 1/3 innings for the Cadets and held the Blue Devils to one earned run and four hits.
“He did a nice job, he really picked us up,” Hilton coach Jeff Murphy said. “We had four games last week and we had five pitchers throw Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We didn’t have many pitchers left, and he really picked us up in a tight spot where we’re able to use the rest of our pitching staff on Wednesday and Friday.”
Hilton (8-3) visits Gates Chili on Wednesday and Greece Athena on Friday.
Victor (10-2) has won three straight games since falling to McQuaid last week. The Blue Devils visit Webster Schroeder on Wednesday and host Fairport in a key Monroe County East 1 division match-up on Friday.
