  • On Wednesday, May 15, at 8 a.m., United Way Day of Caring volunteers gathered at the Alex Eligh Community Center in Newark and enjoyed a breakfast, which was generously donated by Wegmans.  The morning also included company recognitions and an announcement of the dollars collected to date for the United Way campaign.  Regional Director, Carol Pettis, stated that the organization was at 86 percent of its $740,000 goal and that money is still coming in. Several companies were recognized at the event and awards were given out to a number of businesses.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., more than 200 volunteers helped local non-profit agencies with “hands-on” work assignments. There were 18 different businesses and non-profits that helped carry out over 47 work projects at 25 sites throughout Wayne County. Volunteers cleaned, painted, landscaped, raked and accomplished small carpentry projects, at various agencies, parks, schools, food pantries and community centers throughout the community.
We thank the many volunteers and businesses that made the day a great success including the Alex Eligh Community Center for hosting the event.   In addition, a special thank you goes out to Wegmans, Heluva Good and Bakewise Brands Inc. for their donations of product and food.
The following employee workplace awards were given out to local businesses:
Breen’s Shop N Save in Williamson – Certificate of Achievement
Community Bank Plaza in Newark – Certificate of achievement
Constellation Energy – Award of Excellence
    ExxonMobil – Award of Excellence
