  • Cub Scout and Boy Scout Troops No. 122 and 138 and Venture Crews No. 138, 3483, and 3333 held their Scouting For Food and Clothing event on Saturday, March 23.
Residents of the Village of Newark generously donated 35 boxes of food for the Newark Food Closet.  The Troops, along with parents, collected, delivered, and sorted the canned and boxed varieties of food.  Clothing was also collected and donated.
Since Jan. 1, 250 adults and 125 children have received 3 to 4 days worth of food. The Newark Food Closet is open Monday through Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the basement of the Municipal Building, 100 E. Miller St., Newark. Persons residing in the village of Newark and town of Arcadia who are in need of food are eligible. A photo ID and proof of current residency must be presented at the Red Cross office at 331-3783 or 400 S. Main St. on the day food is requested to receive a Referral Form.
The Food Closet depends entirely on donations of food and money from individuals, businesses, organizations, churches, and schools.  Financial donations are used to purchase perishable items.
