“One afternoon, while my daughter was moving an item from her car into my home, the neighborhood cat jumped into the car and took a nap,” she said. “I’m allergic to animals, but still think they’re cute.”

Cat Allergies
By M. Cathy Helmes

If a fluffy cat you see.
Keep it far away from me.
On a humid day with sun.
Airborne hairballs aren’t fun.

Cat saliva makes me cringe.
Swollen nose, itchy twinge.
Sneeze aloud, tissue tote.
Bloodshot eyes, raspy throat.

Wheezing lungs, air I need.
Away from felines with God’s speed.
Catnip, catnip, everywhere.
On my knees I say a prayer.

Please, kind Lord, remove these cats.
From this grouchy old battleaxe.
Cats are cute and, oh, so pretty.
But keep me afar from (ah-choo) kitty.
