In acknowledgment of the first anniversary of the opening of ESL Federal Credit Union’s Newark office, members of the Newark community, town officials, and ESL members and employees held a special celebration on March 12.

The highlight of the event was the recognition of the 700th member, Sandra Cooney, who opened a checking account at the Newark office earlier in the month.

Cooney, a certified nursing assistant at DeMay Living Center in Newark, received $500 from ESL. In addition, ESL contributed an additional $500 to Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Foundation, on behalf of Cooney, who selected the charity. The check presentation was held during the celebration. Newark Mayor Peter Blandino, Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Administrator Mark Klyczek and Newark Community Hospital Foundation Director Annette Leahy also attended, as well as Cooney’s mother, Gladys Gatson, who accepted the check on Cooney’s behalf.

Disc jockey, Jeremy Newman, from radio station WBEE was also on hand for a live remote. During the remote, he raffled off several prizes, including two tickets to the Keith Urban concert in Buffalo in September, which was won by Newark resident Lena Odell.
