  • This year people started using the term Grey Thursday because so many Black Friday sales started a day early. Some stores, including Walmart, decided to open their doors a day early on Thanksgiving. That decision angered many employees who were upset they would have to miss time with their family for work.
The extended hours even sparked some protest across the country including one locally. Protesters gathered in front of the Walmart on Chili Avenue to protest the low wages they say Walmart pays its employees. They also said they were against Walmart's early opening, which they say was an abuse against the employees.
"Walmart associates were asked to come out last night to work in order to start Black Friday early on Thanksgiving night," said Grania Marcus, who was part of the protest on Friday. "This is just one more way which the workers are really abused."
Protesters also said they were encouraged by other demonstrations across the country, including one by warehouse workers in Los Angeles.
