After working 24 hours straight, the Wayne County Board of Elections called it quits shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday morning with election results from 40 of the 67 districts.

Wayne County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the Board of Elections office on Montezuma Street in Lyons to impound all the results still being tabulated. Counts will resume Wednesday morning at 9 a.m.

Districts were slow to report voting numbers due to problems reading the tapes, some of which were physically brought to the Board of Elections office.

Although the results are still unofficial, all indications point to Palmyra Republicans  keeping their trustee seats against their Democratic opponents.

After both Republican and Democratic party members tallied preliminary counts from each voting district, both sides agreed incumbents David Husk and Christopher Piccola, respectively, won over their Democratic opponents, former village mayor James Elliott and Democrat Dean George.

“I’m very pleased that the village residents had the confidence to vote me in for another four years,” said Husk.

Piccola concurred.

“I’m glad the public is supporting me for another four years and hope to live up to their expectations,” he said.

George said when it comes to making another bid for public office, he’s keeping his options open.

“It was a wonderful experience,” said George. “There were a lot of supporters, well-wishers and there was a lot of community involvement. I look forward to the future here.”

Elliott said he was glad to give people a choice.

“We gave it our best effort,” said Elliott. “That’s what it’s about.”

Running unopposed, Republican Terry C. Rodman will return as village justice.
