With more than half the districts reporting in, the Wayne County Board of Elections called it quits for the night shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Election officials received reports of election results from 40 of the 67 districts in Wayne County before stopping for the night after working 24 straight hours. Wayne County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the Board of Elections office on Montezuma Street in Lyons to impound all the results still being tabulated. Counts will resume Wednesday morning at 9 a.m.

Districts were slow to report voting numbers due to problems reading the tapes, some of which were physically brought to the Board of Elections office.

In the race for Newark Mayor, incumbent Peter Blandino received 1,015 votes; opponent Democrat Ben Harder received 798 votes unofficially as of 1:15 a.m. Although votes had not been officially tallied to completion through the Board of Elections, local race winners were clear.

“I’m very happy that the village of Newark residents have confidence in me to elect me to a third four-year term,” said Blandino. “I will continue to dedicate and commit myself to serving the village residents. I will not let them down.”

Harder was pleased that it was a close race.

“I’m proud of the people who turned out to vote,” said Harder. “I think we made a point. I’m looking forward to running for trustee in two years and will try again in four years for mayor.”

With two trustee seats open, both Republican Helen Blandino, with 962 votes and Republican John Zornow, with 1,340 votes secured them.

Helen was appointed to the trustee position Dec. 1, 2009 to replace Francis Mason Jr., who moved from the village. Zornow was appointed Sept. 1 to replace John Bailey, who also moved out of the village.

“I’m very happy with the support we got,” said Helen. “I’m sure we as a board can accomplish a lot and work together to get things done. I plan to continue to immerse myself in the work of the village.”

Zornow said he was happy to be part of the team.

“As a first time candidate, I’m very happy,” he said. “So many people wished me well.”

Democrat opponent Randy Mayo II received 899 votes.

“Like the Brooklyn Dodgers say, ‘Wait till next time,’” Mayo said. “I want to thank all voters in the village for coming out to vote and being heard.”

Michael R. Miller, Democrat, who ran unopposed for village justice, will return to that position.

Vote counts for other races as of 1:15 a.m. Nov. 3 are as follows:

•Lyons — Town council, one seat, incumbent Ralph D’Amato (R) received 1,142 votes; opponent Heidi Morgenstern (D) received 356 votes.

•Walworth — Town justice, one seat, Dan Majchrzak (R) received 1,228 votes; William Chellis (C) received 449 votes.

•Arcadia — Town justice, one seat, James Colacino (R) received 906 votes; Michael Miller (D) received 1,704 votes.

•Newark — Village Justice, one seat, Miller ran unopposed receiving 1,382 votes.
