Ontario County sheriff's deputies said a Canandaigua woman was charged Monday with aggravated driving while intoxicated and first-degree vehicular manslaughter following a fatal crash on New Michigan Road in Farmington.

Deputies said Alexa C. Irvin, 20, of 5041 W. Ridge Run, was driving north on New Michigan Road at about 4:30 a.m. Monday when she allegedly lost control of the vehicle, which went off the east side of the highway, into a ditch and through a yard before striking a tree. The vehicle then rolled, and front-seat passenger Nicholas A. Furfaro, 22, of 4675 Ontario St. Extension, Canandaigua, was ejected, deputies said.

Furfaro was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.

Deputies said it does not appear that Furfaro was wearing a seatbelt.

The accident is being reconstructed by the sheriff's office, and the investigation is continuing, deputies said. Irvin was charged and arraigned in Farmington Town Court, then sent to the Ontario County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Farmington Town Court.

Victor-Farmington Volunteer Ambulance and Farmington Volunteer Fire Association crews also responded to the scene.
