Newark police say an 18-year-old Newark man was in possession of 78 individually wrapped bags of suspected crack cocaine at his apartment Wednesday, Jan. 22, when the Wayne County Narcotics Enforcement Team (WayneNET) executed a search warrant there.
Overton L. Johnson, of 516 Woodhill Apartments, Newark, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, following the investigation of suspicious activity at the residence. According to WayneNET, Johnson is currently participating in Wayne County Drug Court and is currently on electronic home monitoring awaiting sentencing from a previous investigation of him selling cocaine. He was at his residence when WayneNET executed the warrant issued out of Newark Village Court.
The individually wrapped bags contained the suspected cocaine had an approximate weight of 40 grams, according to WayneNET.
Johnson appeared in Newark Village Court and was remanded to the Wayne County Jail with no bail. He is to appear in court next on Jan. 27.
