CANANDAIGUA — A homeless man who claimed to have been stabbed while in the city of Canandaigua in February is behind bars after being accused of lying to police about the incident.

On Thursday, Canandaigua police officers charged Derrick J. Krager, 25, with third-degree falsely reporting an incident, after an investigation allegedly determined that Krager inflicted the wounds to himself.

According to Sgt. Scott Kadien, of the Canandaigua Police Department, Krager allegedly reported Feb. 2 that an unknown person came up behind him and stabbed him several times in the torso, causing several superficial wounds.

Krager was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital as a precaution.

The 25-year-old would later admit to police that he was the source of the wounds, Kadien said.

Krager was arraigned in Canandaigua City Court and placed in the Ontario County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond.
