Marion Junior-Senior High School recently named Ian Davies as valedictorian and Craig Adriaansen as salutatorian.

Davies, son of Michael and Patricia Davies earned the valedictorian distinction by accumulating an overall academic average of 98.28. In addition to completing his four years of high school with the top average in a class of 64 students, he is an extremely active school citizen. He is a selected member of the National Honor Society, select choir, show choir and the A-1 Unit in marching band, and has been selected for the all-county choir three years in a row. To add to his musical repertoire, he has acquired lead roles in Marion’s annual musical over the last several years. In addition to his academic load and extracurricular activities, he finds time during his schedule to work part-time at Tops. He has been recognized academically, awarded the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award, American Chemical Society Recognition Award and Clarkson University Leadership Award. In the fall, Davies will attend Northwood University in Michigan to major in international business.

Adriaansen, son of Brian and Jill Adriaansen, earned the salutatorian honor by accumulating an overall academic average of 97.8 over four years of study. His extracurricular activity and volunteer involvement is quite extensive. Adriaansen is a selected member of the National Honor Society and varsity tennis team, president of the German International Club for all four years of high school and a member of show choir, select choir and marching band. He has been selected for the all-county band for four years, all-county choir for three years and conference all-state, and has been an integral part of Marion’s annual musical by landing lead roles for several years running. He has been awarded multiple academic and overall achievements, including the American Chemical Society Recognition Award, Clarkson University’s Achievement Award, Boy’s State Delegate, Daughters of the American Revolution Citizenship Award, which he won first place locally; and Ovation Music Award. He has also earned the ranking of Eagle Scout. He volunteers his musical talents at his church weekly and also finds time to work part time at Morgan Farms. Adriaansen plans for the fall are to attend the University of Buffalo to major in business.
