The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit will host its fourth annual steak dinner fundraiser Oct. 1 at the Fairville, Rose and Walworth fire departments.

Throughout its 30-year history, Wayne County K-9 teams have been responsible for the location and apprehension of numerous subjects ranging from lost children to dangerous felons. The teams have recovered and removed thousands of dollars in illegal drug currency and pound of narcotics from the community.

The unit includes three German shepherds and one bloodhound. The dogs and their handlers are put in numerous hours of training throughout the year and are called to assist officers to assist in searching for missing persons, building searches and investigations. The unit responded to 222 calls in 2015.

The dinner menu will include steak, salt potatoes, corn and a dinner roll. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased until Sept. 7. Proceeds will be used to purchase new K-9 equipment and initiatives.

If unable to attend the dinner, donations are accepted. Checks can be made payable to Wayne County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit and mail it to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Suite 100, 7376 State Route 31, Lyons, NY, 14489, Attention: Barry Virts.
