Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts has announced the county's annual STOP-DWI Crackdown for the Labor Day Holiday, which will target the time period from Aug. 19 through Labor Day, Sep. 5.

The crackdown, which steps up efforts to identify and prosecute people who are driving while intoxicated, is linked with other law enforcement initiatives already done at key times of the year under a county and statewide umbrella.

The STOP-DWI Crackdown is a locally driven program with all Wayne County law enforcement agencies participating and working together — including local police departments, state police and the Sheriff’s Office — coordinating awareness, education and enforcement activities.
