Victor resident named Ontario Republican of the Year

Eleanor Barry, 93, of Victor, recently was honored as Ontario Republican of the Year at Ontario County Republican Committee’s Constitution Day Dinner at Club 86 in Geneva.

Barry said she has never missed an election since she was 21. She moved to Victor after growing up in Rushville, and taught Latin for a few years before moving on to a career at Eastman Kodak.

She became involved in Republican political work as a poll watcher. Barry joined Victor Town Republican Committee in the 1960s, and she is still an active member today. She serves on OCRC’s executive committee.


Victor artist honored at M&T Bank Clothesline Festival

Mark Moore, of Victor, recently received a Merit Award at the M&T Bank Clothesline Festival held at Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester.

The award recognizes outstanding creativity and quality of execution. Moore was honored for his metal and wood art.

Moore was one of 11 artists to receive an award. Winners were selected among 375 state artists at the 61st annual fine arts and crafts festival. The event featured live entertainment, food and family art activities.


Student to compete as Miss Canandaigua

Canandaigua Elementary School fourth-grader Gillian Vit will compete for the title of National All-American Miss as Miss Canandaigua for the junior preteen group in November in Anaheim, California.

Vit will represent her hometown for the queen title and national titles for talent, top model, photogenic, spokesmodel and actress categories.

She recently took first place in talent and second runner-up in top model and photogenic contests at the state competition in Rochester, and won best resume.


West Bloomfield Republicans hold party caucus

West Bloomfield Republicans recently held its party caucus at West Bloomfield Congregational United Church of Christ.

The night’s goal was to select candidates for the general election.

The caucus’ winning candidates were Todd Campbell, town supervisor; Kevin Carey and William Travis, town board; and Jeffrey Ball, highway superintendent.


Canandaigua, Victor residents join Ontario Arc Foundation board

Stephen Rossi, of Victor, and Deborah Rought, of Canandaigua, recently joined the Friends of Ontario Arc Foundation board.

Rossi serves as vice president — investment and financial planning officer at Canandaigua National Bank and Trust. Rought is vice president and community office manager at Canandaigua National Bank, and is a member of Ontario Arc’s governing board.

The board oversees the agency’s fundraising events, 1954 Society, annual campaign fund, major gifts, planned giving, honorariums and memorial donations.
