Rose Hill Ranch steers horses and people with clinics, lessons, training and more near Naples

A recent visit by an equestrian superstar from Australia will be followed this weekend with a trick-riding event by a nationally known expert at Rose Hill Ranch near Naples. The equine training center on Italy Valley Road offers clinics, lessons and coaching, performance training, showing, colt starting and a slew of other basic and advanced horsemanship services.

Latest developments have drawn more attention to the ranch where owners Jack and Emma Minteer live with their three children and more than a dozen horses, in addition to serving as many as 14 clients at a time.

Being surrounded by all things equestrian suits the Minteers, who live in a small ranch house just a few steps from the giant indoor arena with brand new footing and matted stalls.

On Tuesday afternoon, Sawyer Pendleton, 8, of Canandaigua, was carefully brushing a miniature horse in preparation to ride the mini named Toby. As Emma helped outfit Toby for the ride, she talked about her love of horses and affinity for mustangs.

Jack, who had a bull riding career for more than 30 years, said Emma is a champion competitor in Extreme Mustang Makeover. Nationwide competitions through Mustang Heritage Foundation give contestants about 100 days to tame a mustang from “wild to mild,” the foundation says. Emma and Jack are both involved working with the foundation, which raises awareness and boosts adoptions for America’s mustangs. In addition to mustangs, Jack and Emma also work with problem horses and started horses for all disciplines.

The Minteers bought Rose Hill Ranch five years ago. Emma, a Rushville native, and Jack, who comes from Conesus, said the facility on Italy Valley Road was perfect for their needs when they moved in.

Jack is a second-generation trainer and through his connections the Minteers connected with world-renowned horse trainer Dan James, who came this summer to the ranch. James is a world-class colt trainer who has won numerous accolades including at the Equitana Asia Pacific and winning the Road to the Horse International Colt Starting World Champion title. His clinics, including the one at Rose Hill Ranch, entertain and help equine enthusiasts better understand horses and horsemanship.

This weekend, Loretta Pemberton of Tennessee with host a Trick Riding Clinic. The two-day event will provide participants with training and entertainment. Pemberton has over 30 years of trick riding knowledge and experience, and her clinic at Rose Hill Ranch will mark her North East Trick Riding Clinic.
