Lester “Sparky” Hall, of Palmyra, recently received a certificate of appreciation from New York State Police and Capt. Barry Chase in recognition of his professionalism and dedication to duty in serving Wayne County citizens.
Hall, a 60-year resident of Palmyra, received the award in a private ceremony with family and friends.
He joined the U.S. Navy Reserves as a young man, where he served for seven years. He raised his family in Palmyra through the 1970s, and later worked security at Wayne County Court in Lyons for over 15 years. Hall has assisted Palmyra Police Department as a volunteer for event security and crossing guard duties for the past six years, and volunteers as a summer greeter with his wife, Sharon, at Port of Palmyra.
Chief David Smith and Sheriff Barry Virts presented a plaque to Hall during the ceremony in honor of his dedication and service to the community. Palmyra PD officers, former Chief David Dalton and Rick Perry, deputy mayor of the village of Palmyra, also attended the ceremony.
