2 REACH FOR THE STARS: Stargazers can get away from the lights of town and head into the woods for an unobstructed view of the night sky during the "Star Party" from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at the Rochester Museum & Science Center’s Cumming Nature Center, 6472 Gulick Road, Naples. The event will focus on the basics of astronomy — telescopes, star charts, galaxies and more. In addition to stargazing and telescope viewing, there will be "guided cosmic supposer sessions" about such topics as black holes, an "Owl Prowl" hike at 8 p.m., moonlight skiing and snowshoeing, and a bonfire. 3 COOKING UP SOME COMPETITION: Some 20 area professional and celebrity chefs will serve up samples of appetizers, entrees, soups, salads and desserts Sunday, March 11, for the sixth annual Kiwanis Chef’s Challenge, set for 2-5 p.m. at King’s Catering, 4031 state Routes 5 and 20, Hopewell. There will be a competition in food categories for the pros and the celebrities, with attendees voting for their favorites. There also will be more than 100 silent auction items, plus tastings of wine, beer, spirits, tea and coffee. Hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Canandaigua, the Chef’s Challenge supports the Kiwanis project fund to be used for scholarships, senior activities, youth transportation needs and such. 4 OLD WORLD FUNDRAISER: An "Old World" spaghetti dinner will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 9, at Cheshire Fire Hall No. 1, 4285 state Route 21, Canandaigua, to benefit the Cheshire Theatre and Meeting Hall project. Dinners include pasta with meat or veggie sauce, salad, bread, drinks and dessert. (Gluten-free pasta is available). There will also be a 50/50 raffle, plus Arbor Hill wines for the sampling.
