1 ART OF NANCY LANE: Bristol artist Nancy Lane's exhibit currently on display at Wood Library in Canandaigua — for which an opening reception will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday, March 15 — focuses on her fine art paintings of landscapes and portraits. Lane is known as a professional and prolific picture book illustrator, with work published in more than 25 children's books and featured in a Wood Library exhibit in 2011. She has turned in recent years to fine art, studying painting with nationally renowned artists to further her skills in oil painting, plein art painting and portraiture — with a painting winning best of show in the Rochester Art Club's Fall Member Exhibition last year. The current show, extending though April 27, features recent oils, watercolors and charcoal drawings, with many of the landscapes from the Canandaigua area. The exhibit is in the third-floor Ewing Community Room at the library, 134 N. Main St., Canandaigua.
2 TASTE FOR A CAUSE: The offerings of area eateries, wineries, distilleries and breweries can be enjoyed Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Rochester Institute of Technology during the "Taste for a Cause" fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting Jewish Family Service of Rochester. There's more than just a feast for the palate, though: Astronaut Don Pettit's Stellar Space Photography exhibit will be on display — he's a veteran of two extended stays aboard the International Space Station. There will also be a silent auction and live music by Katy Wright. The event is in the University Gallery of RIT, 1 Lomb Memorial Drive, Henrietta. Tickets: $50-$60. Details: www.jfsrochester.org
