Stephany Ruckdeschel, 54, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and 5 years of post-release supervision after prosecutors say she gave her 7-year-old granddaughter a drug at a home on Wetmore Park in Rochester.

A Rochester woman was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to attempted murder of her granddaughter.

Stephany Ruckdeschel, 54, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and 5 years of post-release supervision after prosecutors say she gave her 7-year-old granddaughter a drug at a home on Wetmore Park in Rochester.

Prosecutors say Ruckdeschel intended to take her own life and the life of her granddaughter.

“With Stephany Ruckdeschel’s admission of guilt, the young victim and the rest of her family can start to move on from this incredibly traumatic event,” said Assistant District Attorney Amanda Balling. “By pleading guilty to the attempted murder of her granddaughter, the child will not have to go through the difficult process of testifying against her grandmother in court."

The young girl is now healthy, according to prosecutors.
