The Jefferson County trucker admitted taking the teen in his tractor trailer from her home to Montana
Carl Burdick, 59, of Henderson, Jefferson County, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for conviction of transporting a minor across state lines to engage in sexual conduct.
U.S. District Court Judge Charles Siragusa also ordered 10 years of post-release supervision and that Burdick register as a sex offender.
U.S. Attorney Kyle Rossi, who handled the matter, said Burdick, a long-haul truck driver, used text messaging and social media to develop a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl living in Wayne County.
He said Burdick groomed her over a period of several months in 2015, soliciting nude photographs, and taking drove her in his tractor trailer from her home to Montana, during which time he engaged in sexual activity with the teen.
The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, under the direction of Sheriff Barry Virts; Monroe County Sheriff's Department, directed by Sheriff Todd Baxter; and the FBI; with assistance by the Bivona Child Advocacy Center.
