Wayne County Council for the Arts, 108 W. Miller St., Newark, will present its regional photography show, “Art Through the Lens,” this July.
“Art Through the Lens” is a judged show that is open to all artists submitting photography, both Wayne Arts members and the public.
The photograph must be the original work of the submitting artist. A photographic process must have been used in the production of the work. Scanned work is acceptable; digital art that did not originate from a photographic process is not. Works that previously were exhibited at Wayne Arts are not eligible.
Types of photography accepted include, but are not limited to, traditional photography, digitally enhanced as well as vintage and alternative processes. Works created entirely by digital means are not accepted in this show.
Traditional photography includes black-and-white, color or toned images, shot digitally or with film. The image has conventional post-processing techniques that enhance the image’s appearance without changing the original content. Cropping, sharpening, dodging, burning, moderate enhancements to color and contrast and removal of obtrusive artifacts such as dust specks are allowed.
Digitally enhanced photography includes an image that starts with a photograph and is digitally edited or enhanced on a computer or by other means beyond normal darkroom technique so that the image’s appearance is significantly changed from the appearance of the original photograph. Images in this category include montages, may have subjects or lighting added or removed or make heavy use of digital filters or plug-ins, strongly enhanced colors, photos stitched into a panorama or HDR.
Vintage and alternative processes include photographic processes such as the cyanotype, photogram, daguerreotype and tintype.
Entry fees for up to three pieces are $20 for members, $35 for the public. Entry includes one year of membership to Wayne Arts. Pay with cash or checks payable to Wayne Arts; credit cards are accepted. All fees are nonrefundable.
Cash prizes will be awarded. Individuals can receive only one award. Award winners must be present or represented at the opening. Winners will be notified by the show chairman. The decision of the juror is final.
