Newark Elks Lodge No. 1249 recently donated $1,000 to the Alex Eligh Community Center.
The Gratitude Grant from the Elks National Foundation will support the center’s youth baseball and softball programs.
“The youth baseball and youth softball programs, which run from April 1 through Aug. 1, benefit children in grades K-12,” said Mike Muscolino, AECC executive director. “The grant money allows us to put together a well organized and safe activity for the youth in our community. We maintain our facilities daily, and provide the participants with updated equipment. A registration fee is charged, but we never reject a child due to the inability to pay this fee. All kids can play ball in our programs.”
Muscolino said the grant allows the center to put together a quality program for over 300 children who are given the opportunity to be involved in an activity that promotes sportsmanship and fair play among teammates and opposing players. The program gives parents the opportunity to watch their children have a positive experience and develop their athletic skills.
“Newark Elks continue to be involved with the youth in our community,” Muscolino said. “They make a sincere effort to support youth, and they are making a difference in their young lives. I applaud them for all that they do and have done for the kids. I am proud to be a Newark Elk.”
