Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum, 7606 N. Ontario St., Sodus Point, is offering various programs in August 2018 that include live music, hands-on science activities and a history lecture.
The Summer Concert Series runs from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sundays through Labor Day weekend. This year’s lineup features Panloco on Aug. 5, the Dan Elliott Quartet on Aug. 12, Letizia and the Z Band on Aug. 19 as well as Matt Chase and Thunder Canyon on Aug. 26.
A free shuttle bus is available from Newark, Lyons, Sodus and the parking area in Sodus Point. Bring seats and sunscreen. Admission is free. Refreshments are available for purchase.
National Lighthouse Day commemorates the 1789 signing of the Lighthouse Act and commissioning of the first federal lighthouse in the U.S. Museum visitors who mention National Lighthouse Day on Aug. 7 will receive a free gift with paid admission.
The “History Alive!” lecture series continues at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 9 at Sodus Point Village Hall, 8356 Bay St. Jane Oakes will discuss 19th-century therapeutic water cures and mineral springs that became popular in upstate New York. Admission is free.
The museum will host an ice cream social from 1 to 3 p.m. on Aug. 12. Visitors can enjoy a sundae with toppings for $4.50 while listening to music by the Dan Elliott Quartet.
Students in grades 4-6 will learn about Lake Ontario through science activities at “Fun Science at the Lighthouse” from 1 to 3 p.m. on Aug. 21. Registration is required for the free program. Call (315) 483-0775 or email to register.
