Volunteer shifts are available on Sept. 14-15 for the fourth annual 30,000 Meal Challenge at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 400 S. Main St., Newark.
Approximately 200 volunteers are needed to work with Rise Against Hunger and package meals during four work shifts: 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 14, and 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 15.
The meals are packaged by local volunteers and distributed to in-country partners around the world who are working to serve communities in need. Meals are distributed to schools as a tool to promote education, improve students’ health and nutrition, address gender inequalities, stimulate economic growth and fight child labor.
The yearly community event is sponsored by Newark Rotary Club, Catholic Charities of Wayne County, Newark Central School District and Together in Christ. Rise Against Hunger’s mission is to end hunger in this lifetime by providing food and aid to the world’s most vulnerable and creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources.
