Cricket Wireless in Newark recently helped 80 children get ready for the school year by providing green, gray and black backpacks.
Corey Brey, store manager and a Newark High School graduate, said the backpacks were provided by stores in central and western New York owned by Greenfield Wireless to benefit elementary school children in need before school opens. Brey’s dad, Rocky, taught sixth-grade science at Newark Middle School in from 1969 to 1999.
Working in conjunction with Blessings in a Backpack in Newark and Greg Herbst, assistant principal of Perkins and Lincoln schools, Brey got the word out to families of students in pre-kindergarten through second grade in need that backpacks were being distributed at the Newark Wegmans Plaza store.
Brey said his store is happy to help make back-to-school preparation a little bit easier for families in need.
