Park Presbyterian Church, 110 Maple Court, Newark, plans to bring members back from summer’s recreational activities and introduce them to new leaders and a program during Rally Day on Sept. 23.
The Rev. Christopher Mergener will lead the 10 a.m. worship service. Mergener arrived at the church earlier this summer from a pastorate at First Presbyterian Church in Sag Harbor.
Rally Day will include a program for children in kindergarten and younger at 10:30 a.m., as well as a picnic lunch after the worship service. Committees and teams will host a mini fair throughout the morning to promote events and activities for all ages.
Park Presbyterian will launch a children and youth program on Oct. 14. The Rev. Ellen Donnan recently joined the church as its Christian education coordinator and will offer a program for grades 1-6 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on the second Sundays of the month. A contemporary music worship service will follow from 4:30 to 5 p.m.
Mergener originally is from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He attended McCormick Theological Seminary and served First Presbyterian Church of Chicago, where he did street-mission in southside neighborhoods. He served as a chaplain intern at Northwestern Hospital while in Chicago. Before attending seminary, he worked for 27 years in the jewelry industry as buyer and member of several management teams.
