The bin, found in Le Roy, was taped shut without ventilation

PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people who abandoned a cat in Le Roy.

The male cat was found Saturday around 8:30 a.m. in a plastic bin that was taped shut without ventilation. A passerby discovered the bin on the side of the road at the intersection of Munson and Gilbert streets and notified police.

The cat, now named Munson, is currently in the care of Genesee County Animal Control.

Police believe the long-haired cat had been left in the bin for about 20 minutes, and surveillance footage shows a white pickup truck at the scene.

PETA says the reward will be given to the person who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects in this case.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Le Roy Police Department at 585-345-6350.
