The Macedon Community Christmas Program is getting ready for another year of helping local families during the holiday season. For 35 years, Macedon families in need have received assistance through this program.
There are various opportunities to help for anyone interested in donating time or items to this year’s program.
Canned and nonperishable food donations will go to the Macedon Food Pantry. Interested benefactors can ask for a family assignment and fill up a food box for a holiday meal.
The program accepts gift certificates from local grocery stores to purchase perishable food items like milk, eggs and meat. Gift certificates from area stores will buy items such as clothes, gas and toiletries.
Donors can buy gifts for children and senior citizens. Program organizers can provide ideas, if needed.
Volunteers will meet to organize donations at 7 p.m. on Dec. 11 at St. Patrick’s Church, 52 W. Main St., Macedon.
The Macedon Community Christmas Program is possible through efforts by the Macedon Food Pantry at St. Patrick’s Church, of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, and other area churches, schools, civic organizations, businesses, Scouting groups and individuals.
The program provided holiday support to 146 families in 2017, totaling almost 450 individuals. This included 190 children and over 50 seniors.
