Gananda Central School District will host its 2018 Gananda Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Oct. 28 at The Golf Club at Blue Heron Hills in Macedon.
Four graduates and two coaches will be honored at the event: Ben Finn and Trevor Stearns from the Class of 2008, Dan FitzSimons from the Class of 2007, Christine Isselhard from the Class of 2006, and coaches Denis Grego and Rick Wadsworth.
Finn was was a Wayne County all-league first-team athlete in golf for four years from 2005 to 2008, during which time he received consecutive golf team MVP awards. He was a Wayne County all-league first-team athlete in soccer from 2006 to 2008. Finn is the all-time leading scorer in soccer at Gananda with 57 goals and 19 assists.
FitzSimons, a 2007 Gananda athlete of the year recipient, holds the Gananda swimming record with 61 victories and seven second-place finishes. He was a Wayne County all-league first-team swimming athlete from 2005 to 2007 and holds six Section V championship titles in swimming. FitzSimons was a two-year member of the golf team and continued to play in college, where he placed fourth in the 2011 NCAA tournament.
Greco, a social studies teacher in the district for 30 years, created a football merger between East Rochester and Gananda. As the ER-Gananda varsity football coach, Greco earned six league titles: 2004, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017. He earned a Section V football championship in 2012, and was named coach of the year for Section V and the Finger Lakes.
Isselhard, a Gananda athlete of the year recipient in 2005 and 2006, holds a school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.96 seconds. She holds a school record for the most rebounds in a basketball game with 24. In 2006, Isselhard received the Gananda Sportsmanship Award. She was a Wayne County all-league first-team athlete for soccer in 2004, basketball in 2004 and 2005, and track in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Stearns, a Gananda athlete of the year recipient in 2008, was named a Wayne County all-league first-team athlete in four sports: baseball and soccer in 2007, and basketball and track in 2008. He was named MVP in track and basketball in 2008, and was a member on the Section V Class C championship team in 2007.
Wadsworth, a district staff member over the last 20 years, volunteered to coach the Gananda girls and boys modified basketball programs, girls modified softball program, and girls modified volleyball program.
