Cross Creek Church, 3700 state Route 31, Palmyra, will join nearly 600 churches around the world in hosting Night to Shine 2019, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation.
Night to Shine is a prom experience for ages 14 and older centered on God’s love for people with special needs. This event will be held simultaneously on Feb. 8, 2019, by churches in all 50 states and across the globe.
The Tim Tebow Foundation hopes to change how modern culture embraces people with special needs.
Each guest will enter this free event on a red carpet, complete with a warm welcome from a friendly crowd and paparazzi. Once inside, the event will feature hair and makeup stations, a shoe shine area, limousine rides, corsages and boutonnieres, hors d’oeuvres, karaoke, prom favors, a professional DJ, and dancing. Each guest will be crowned king or queen of the prom.
“I am blown away by how we are seeing God use the church to step into this space as an advocate for people with special needs,” said Tim Tebow, founder of the Tim Tebow Foundation. “It’s not about my foundation or the churches themselves, but about communities coming together to love and celebrate people with differences. Every town, every village, every state, every country needs a Night to Shine for their special needs community — a chance to be a part of something significant and life-changing … and to be blessed in the process.”
Each host church receives a Night to Shine planning manual and prom kit with personalized guidance and support from a Foundation staff member. The Foundation has committed millions of dollars in financial support to hundreds of churches needing financial assistance in hosting the event.
Night to Shine launched in 2015 using 44 host churches and 15,000 volunteers to honor more than 7,000 kings and queens of the prom. In February 2018, 537 host churches and 175,000 volunteers celebrated 90,000 honored guests with special needs. Now in its fifth year, the event is continuing to reach more locations and is expected to honor over 100,000 guests.
“We are so excited to host this event for the first time this year,” said Linda Prince, Night to Shine coordinator for Cross Creek. “We have opened registration for guests, but we are still in need of volunteers and sponsors throughout the Finger Lakes region. Space is limited to 230 guests, but we need many more volunteers in all areas to make this event an annual success.”
