The 20th annual show and sale is this Sunday at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack

FARMINGTON — Browsing the antique shows is a year-round pastime in the Finger Lakes region. A favorite of many savvy shoppers looking for a collector’s item or period piece is the 20th annual Canandaigua Classic Antique Show & Sale, which this weekend returns to the Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack, 5857 Route 96.

More than 40 antiques dealers will be displaying their goods from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10.

The Canandaigua Classic Antique Committee is celebrating its 20th year as the fundraising arm of several organizations. The principal organizers were Laurel Wemett, Dick Murphy and Cheryl Van Denburg.

The Ontario County Arts Council was the first recipient of this venture, thanks to Executive Director Judi Cermak’s appeal for funds. Granger Homestead was the next organization to benefit and the Kiwanis Club of Canandaigua, the current partner, provides scholarships for college-bound high school students in Ontario County.

Grants are also awarded to nonprofit groups in Ontario County for programming that supports the arts.

Past recipients include the Finger Lakes Plein Air Festival, Bristol Valley Theater, the Honeoye Public Library, and the Cheshire Grange restoration project.

Both scholarship and grant applications are available at www.canandaiguaantiquesclassic.org. More than $120,000 has been donated over 20 years to scholarships, community arts, and restoration projects for the community.

The 20th annual Canandaigua Classic Committee is dedicating this year’s show to two faithful volunteers, Laurel Wemett and Carla DeMeco. Wemett’s work was critical to the success of the antique show and her continued professional guidance has elevated the show to the premiere antique show in the Finger Lakes region, according to show organizers.

In addition to checking out the antiques, find out more about one of your own. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., H. Price Prazar will provide a verbal appraisal of antiques, books and collectibles for an extra fee.

Canandaigua Classic Antique Committee members are Judy Johnson, Joyce Kowba, Christopher Nolan, Marianne Case Gallagher and Cheryl Van Denburg.
