Gananda senior Jayden Castrechini scored 31 points in the Blue Panther’s recent home game against Destiny Christian and set an individual scoring record for the district’s basketball program.
The senior guard has a varsity career point total of 1,019 points to date, surpassing the previous school record of 1,012 set by Tim Yonker in 2000.
Castrechini is the second player in the basketball program’s history to reach the 1,000 point milestone. He is in his third year at the varsity level, and currently averages 20 1/2 points, 4 1/2 assists, five rebounds and four steals per game.
“He has a lot of athletic ability,” coach Jeff Thomson said. “He can play both offense and defense roles well.”
Castrechini will continue to add to his point total throughout the regular season and in sectionals.
