The application period for grants to help boost staffing of fire departments is underway and runs through March 22. U.S. Rep. Chris Collins, R-Clarence announced applications are being accepted from eligible departments using funds through the SAFER Grant Program (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response).
Administered through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the program is designed to help local fire departments and Emergency Management Service (EMS) providers “increase or maintain the number of trained, ‘front line’ firefighters available in their communities,” stated Collins in a release.
The funds help in recruitment of new members and ensure current members are up to date on their training. Collins urged fire departments to apply for the grant before the deadline of March 22 at 5 p.m.
