Ontario volunteer receives New York Guard promotion
The New York Guard promoted Christian Foster, of Ontario, to the rank of officer candidate during a recent training event.
Foster serves with the 10th Area Command. The New York Guard is a force of 500 uniformed volunteers, organized as a military unit, that augments the New York National Guard during state emergencies.
Members of the New York Guard have been involved in flood control efforts along the Lake Ontario shoreline this summer. They train in a volunteer status and do not have a federal military role.
Reliant promotes several on member services team
Reliant Community Credit Union recently promoted local staff on its member services team.
Alexandria Burnett, of Wolcott, and Marcy Mitchell were promoted to branch manager I in Webster and Macedon, respectively. They will oversee the growth and development of member relationships within the branch community, while managing operations, staff development, and interactions with local businesses and community organizations.
Amanda DeSain, of Newark, was promoted to branch manager II, a position responsible for overseeing multiple branches. She will manage the Newark branch and oversee the Macedon branch.
Ontario student wins Tessa Martin Award
Olivia Crawford, a student at James A. Beneway High School in Ontario, won the Rochester Philharmonic League’s Tessa Martin Award for female vocalists at the 2019 Young Artist Auditions.
Crawford sang for a panel of judges at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. She and the other winners will perform in a recital on July 7 in Kilbourn Hall.
RPL sponsors this annual competition to encourage and acknowledge the accomplished musicianship of high school students. It offers five awards to musicians in grades 10-12 from the nine-county region surrounding Rochester.
