In 2018, the village of Newark saw a 143 percent rise in the dollar amount of commercial/industrial construction project costs over 2017.
The PTECH BOCES project in Silver Hill Technology Park, the maternity unit remodel at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and the interior remodel of Marshall Exteriors on East Union Street led to a strong year in this sector.
On the residential side, there was a 73 percent increase in construction project costs over 2017.
With anticipated projects at the Fresenius Medical Care dialysis center, Spinco Metal Products, Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, Byrne Dairy, Wegmans, two projects in the village’s industrial/business park and a new facility for IEC Electronics, another year of substantial growth is anticipated in 2019.
“It is a very exciting time in the village of Newark,” Mayor Jonathan Taylor said. “We are seeing increasing numbers of families moving to the village to raise their children and gain employment. Our strong emphasis on improving our infrastructure is facilitating growth for current businesses and attracting new businesses and manufacturing to Newark, which provides more jobs in our community. All of this has helped tremendously in the growth of our local economy.”
