Steven J. Steurrys, 28, was the only occupant of the vehicle, according to Ontario County sheriff's deputies.

HOPEWELL — Ontario County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a fatal one-vehicle crash early this morning near the driver’s home on Spangle Street.

Steven J. Steurrys, 28, of Spangle Street, had been traveling on the roadway when he crashed into a tree head on, according to deputies.

Steurrys, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash although the vehicle's airbags deployed, deputies said.

Steurrys was taken to F.F. Thompson Hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries, deputies said.

The roadway was shut down for about two hours after the crash, which was reported at 12:24 a.m. Saturday.

Hopewell firefighters and members of the Canandaigua Emergency Squad also responded.
