Deputies say 29-year-old Nicholas Heberle communicated via a messaging app with an undercover officer that had identified themselves as a 14-year-old girl from Canandaigua.

An Ontario man was charged after deputies say he intended to have sex with an undercover police officer who was posing as a teenage girl on a messaging app.

Deputies say 29-year-old Nicholas Heberle communicated via the app with the undercover officer that had identified themselves as a 14-year-old girl from Canandaigua. He stated in the messages that he wanted to have sex with the girl and described various sex acts over several days.

Heberle was picked-up in Victor on April 19 after he asked the undercover officer via the messaging app to meet him.

He was charged with second-degree attempted rape and taken to the Ontario County Jail where is awaiting arraignment.

The arrest is the result of a co-investigation between the Ontario County Sheriff's Office and Canandaigua Police Department.
