Retired Perkins School music teacher Maria Walton, who volunteers on behalf of the Newark Central School District Music Department to help the Newark Food Closet, will collect food and money donations at the five remaining concerts this school year.
She’s asking anyone planning to attend to bring one or more nonperishable food items for the Food Closet, or provide a monetary donation.
Noting there are over 700 Newark students involved in music, Walton is encouraging their families, friends and relatives attending these concerts to help.
“The Food Closet always gets a lot of donations during the holiday season, but then it drops off drastically in winter and spring,” she said. “I am hoping that people will bring food items to all of our concerts and will associate going to a concert with making a donation to the Food Closet.”
The Newark Food Closet serves over 1,200 families from Newark, Port Gibson and East Palmyra.
Walton will collect food at the following concerts.
Kelley School Concert featuring Beginning Band/Continuing Band, Bucket Brigade, Fourth and Fifth Grade choruses: 7 p.m. on May 30, Kelley School Auditorium.
