Newark Garden Club received five awards at the 95th annual members council meeting of the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State, 7th District, held this year at Burgundy Basin in Pittsford.
The club received citations for horticulture, civic beautification, garden therapy and conservation. Therapy involves club members working four times a year with residents of the Wayne County Nursing Home, helping them with crafts involving flowers and plants.
The highest award received was a glass trophy for historic preservation. This was given for the club’s work in Elliott Park, Perkins Park, Central Park and the Newark-Arcadia Historical Museum.
Newark Garden Club also received a $400 grant for refurbishing the Memorial Garden on the south side of the Canal Park.
Guests are encouraged to attend the club’s meetings on the first Fridays of the month. New members are welcome. Call (315) 331-8535 for information.
