The Wayne County Council for the Arts will present its annual regional photography show, “Art Through the Lens,” on June 13-July 20, with delivery of art from 3 to 6 p.m. on June 8.
The judged show is open to all artists. The photograph must be the original work of the submitting artist. A photographic process must have been used in the production of the work.
Scanned work is acceptable, digital art that did not originate from a photographic process is not. Works previously exhibited at Wayne Arts are not eligible.
The following types of photography are accepted. Works cannot be created entirely by digital means.
Traditional photography: black and white, color or toned, shot digitally or with film. The image has conventional post-processing techniques that enhance the image’s appearance without changing the original content. Cropping, sharpening, dodging, burning, moderate enhancements to color and contrast, and removal of obtrusive artifacts such as dust specks are allowed.
Digitally enhanced: An image that starts with a photograph and is digitally edited or enhanced on a computer or by other means beyond normal darkroom technique so that its appearance is significantly changed. Images can be montages, have subjects or lighting added or removed, or make use of digital filters or plug-ins, strongly enhanced colors, photos stitched into a panorama or HDR.
Vintage and alternative processes: Photographic processes such as the cyanotype, photogram, daguerreotype, tintype and others.
Artists can submit up to three pieces. Entry fees are $20 for Wayne Arts members, or $35 for the public. The fee includes one year of membership. Make checks payable to Wayne Arts; cash and credit cards are accepted. All fees are nonrefundable.
Artists will be eligible for cash prizes. Winners will be notified by the show chair, and must be present or represented at the reception from 4 to 6 p.m. on July 13. The juror’s decision is final.
The Wayne Art Gallery is open from noon to 3 p.m. on Thursdays-Saturdays and by appointment. Admission is free. Wayne Arts is located at 108 W. Miller St. in Newark. Call (315) 331-4593, email or visit for information.
